thirty

my bff is 30 today!!!
anya,
thanks for being the smartest, prettiest,
most kindhearted, most generous,
and funniest girl i know!
thanks for (always) being there
during the most
important times in my life!
we don't live very near,
but when we talk or see each other,
it's like we are still the 17 year old girls
we used to be,
staying up late in your room chatting about everything...
and i love you! :)

bittersweet

my first born started preschool today!
i am so excited about the fun to be had, friends to be made, and new things to be learned.
but i will admit, i teared up as i drove away.
my baby is definitely all grown up.

my handsome 4 yr. old ready to go

starting off with breakfast, cereal and oj
i sat him down, he hugged lil' bro and he told me i could "go now" :( LOL!
but i snapped this pic before i walked out

cleaning up

calling the grandmas to tell them what an awesome day he had! :)

a girl met a boy...

well, yesterday was our 6 year anniversary!
so, i thought i'd share the story of how this girl met the boy...

i was 15 years old, and one of my good friends was smitten by some football player named russell griffith. by smitten, i mean she thought he was h.o.t. and she was making it known to all the world that he was off limits 'cause she was in love with the guy. cheerleaders were assigned football players to spoil, make signs for, etc. and he was her football player.
well, i had never met this russell griffith so i had no idea who he was and what he looked like. my friend who had already claimed him told me that he had an english class right after mine in the same classroom. long behold, one day, i stood outside that class with my other friends and saw the russell griffith walking towards the door. my friends told me that it was indeed the guy our friend was in love with. so there i was, standing there in my cheer uniform watching this tall, handsome guy walk towards us in his football jersey. i thought to myself..."whoa...he is hot!" i knew exactly why my friend liked him. well, i believe i introduced myself to him and from that moment on...every time we saw each other, which was just in between classes and at games, we would flirt. LOL! we untied each others shoelaces, which makes me laugh now, 'cause how dorky is that! i would be getting my books into my bag and he would come into the classroom and sit right where i was standing. so we'd have no choice but to talk. :) sillyness turned into quick hugs goodbye and him offering me to wear his football jacket on game day. while i was enjoying the attention from him, i knew that i was stuck between a rock and a hard place.
my friend who had liked him and some others saw what was going on and i could feel the tension everywhere i went. i know it is horrible for me to fall for a boy that one of my friends liked first, but there was something about him that i was willing to risk a couple "so called friends" to see if what we had was for real.
some of the girls threatened me, they would cuss me out, it was awful, but i had a couple friends that stuck by me. my bff, anna, was my saving grace. she and another cheerleader, and russ reassured me that he did not like the other girl, that he was only interested in me and that i wasn't doing anything wrong since they did not have a relationship in the first place.
so...there i was 15 going on 16 and going out with russell griffith.
he was a gentleman and would walk me to my classes. he was sweet and shy, and it was refreshing.
did i mention cute?!
he came to my house on my birthday, met my whole family because it was thanksgiving weekend and they were all in town.
needless to say, they all loved him.
while i was head over heels for the guy, it was hard to be at school with so many hating me. i would walk down the halls holding his hand and would feel the glares. i would go to cheer practice and half the girls wouldn't speak to me.
i look back now and see how mean teenage girls can be.
the pressure got to me and all i wanted was for everything to be normal and to have all my friends back...so my relationship with russ sadly suffered.
we started talk less and less, and eventually what we had dwindled away.
i was really sad about it, but God had a plan :)
years later, russ got a hold of me through a mutual friend. i was going to school in san diego and russ was going to school in mississippi. we talked on the phone, got to know each other again, and he asked me out on a date. he said he was gonna be home in cali for the summer, so i said yes. :)
he picked me up at my parents house in valencia. i saw him and was pleasantly surprised. the boy i fell for in high school was now a very handsome man. :) i had the biggest butterflies when i saw him for the first time after so many years and when he smiled i practically melted. we went to bj's for dinner and then a movie afterward. we walked around and talked. we both had grown up so much and were so much more mature than we were when we were together 5 years before that. i saw my future when i looked at him.
i know... pretty cheesy, but i'm not lying.
after our date, i remember calling my bff anna, and i believe i told her that
"yep, i think i'm gonna marry him."
so here we are, 15 years after we first met and we are happier than ever.
i thank God for his wonderful plan for our lives, for bringing me russell griffith.
we dated in high school for about 2 months...i think...haha!
we dated again for 3 years before we got married, half of that was long distance.
we've been married 6 years.
we have 2 beautiful children.
and we have many more years ahead of us and lots of memories to be made...

Happy Anniversary to the football player of my dreams! :)

what a trooper...riding around with my purse :)

i want a beach cruiser!
we stopped at the original hot dog on a stick for some lemonade after our bike ride

my handsome and i on our anniversary date in santa monica

our day started off with breakfast at the griddle cafe...mmmm!
we strolled around the new santa monica mall and the promenade.
we rented beach cruisers and rode around town and along the beach.
we had lunch at baby blues bbq (we saw 'em on the food network),
it was good, but russ and his dad bbq way better :)
it was just nice to spend time together without kiddos.
and my kids had fun hanging out and getting spoiled by my parents.

russ standing in front of the bbq joint

we shared this plate
cornbread, mac n cheese, coleslaw, ribs, pulled pork, and brisket
it was okay...russ and his dad blow this place outta the water :)

monkeying around with the bride to be :)

look at all the pretty fabric...
this gets me in the mood to sew!!!

what i want

russ and i are obsessed with boba drinks lately.
they were an acquired taste for me,
the thought of sucking up huge tapioca balls through a giant straw used to weird me out.
now i can honestly say that i'm hooked and i would drink one daily if i could!
my faves: good ol' milk tea boba, coffee tea with boba, peach tea boba
russ' faves: mango tea with half lychee and half boba, coffee tea with half lychee and half boba
yum!

this is our life...

a dirt backyard + a choc. lab + rain =
my worst nightmare :(

after being scolded for running into the house and getting cleaned up,
he sleeps while i clean up my muddy nightmare.
this guy has the life.

mmmm...the best strawberries from murray family farms.
sweet and delish!

i've been on a baking kick lately.
made this choc. cake for the guys

made blueberry muffins.
made double choc. chip muffins (not pictured).
now, i'm out of flour.
which might be a good thing.

this is the worst part about baking and cooking.
i usually try to clean as i go, but i just wasn't feeling it this day.

my guys.
they do me a huge favor when they nap at the same time.
(don't worry...i moved them to their beds)
i heart them so much!

5.14.2010

brobro!!!

our lil' bro is quite the character.
he is so sweet and so silly.
he definitely keeps me on my toes though...
but always makes me laugh while doing it.

this is the outfit he insisted on wearing one day.
ummmm....stripey pajama pants, a rugby shirt, and his "golf" vest.
uh huh...oh, and a plastic play knife tucked into his shirt.
yup.

after breakfast one day, bro kept telling me that he needed to get his tooth out.
he is only 2, so no loose teeth, i took that as he had something stuck in his teeth.
i checked...nothing. i brushed his teeth and thought the issue was over.
i later, found this in my bathroom.
are you kidding me?

and this is how i found him later that day.
all tuckered out on the living room floor after all that getting dressed and flossing.
and yes,
he is wearing red mittens, holding onto a DVD and a purple ruler.
this kid.
gotta love him!

happy mom's day!

mom ignacio
a.k.a. ma

mom griffith
a.k.a. nanny

these amazing women in my life are such blessings to me.
they have taught me to love God first, work hard,
love my children with all that i am, to honor my husband as the leader of my family,
and to enjoy life.
they are completely in love with their husbands. :)
they adore their grandchildren and would do anything for them.
they strive to do their best both in the office world and in the home world
all for the love of their children.
and for that i am so thankful!
i am the mommy i am today because of them!
i love you!
happy mom's day!

love.this.man.

my man has been working so much lately.
when i say so much,
i mean gone before we are awake and home as we are going to bed,
and 6 days a week so much.
we are thankful to God for his job though and praying it is permanent.
i am blessed because he does it joyfully and does not complain.
thank you for working so hard for us!
handsome!

what's new...

visited the poppies in the a.v.
it was beautiful, looked like fire on the hills.
and caught this cute pic of my love bugs.

my sister ciara and her guy adam got engaged!
now both my little seesters are brides-to-be!
they have found amazing men who love the Lord
and i couldn't be happier for them.

gheeez! look at that thing!
a stunning (& very large) tanzanite, custom made engagement ring!
nice work adam!

borrowed the wii system from my parents so
this guy could actually play the games he had at home...
then we gave it back.
noah was disappointed, and i was happy to have my son back!
i like that he gets to play it at his grandparents' house,
but there is a very legit reason i do not want one in my house.
he wants to play it 24/7 and when i don't allow him to he whines all. day. long.

my longing to have a shopping spree at anthropologie
inspired me to learn to make rosettes.
i know...weird!
anyhow, they are super easy and now i have put them on headbands, clips, and pins.
i even made a cute little ring.
unfortunately, i do not have any daughters (yet!) to put them on.
fortunately, i do have a niece, another on the way, and friends with daughters.
praying i do have a girl one day to practice my crafting skills on!
:)

a hit

got a fun book from my mom-in-law!
made calzones for the first time.

they were delish!

in.awe.

i read my bible and prayed this morning, this good friday. and it seriously brought me to tears, to think about the suffering Christ endured this day.
and he did it all for us! so that we can have new life and be forgiven.
he loves us that much!
earlier this week, i am not gonna lie, i was a little stressed (okay, a lot stressed) about this weekend. which family are we going to spend Easter with? what was i going to make for sunday? how am i gonna prepare it if there are so many in the kitchen? it is gonna be chaos with all the kiddos running around? all these things ran through my head with other things and chores that needed to be done in my own household.
wow, how selfish of me!
it is certainly not a burden to spend time with my family and to
serve
the people i love most.
i needed to change my thinking. remembering what the Resurrection was all about allows me to re-focus on God's love for His people. it is an honor to serve others and to do it with the joy my Lord so amply supplies. serving others is serving God. i think so many of us forget that. even christians get caught up in the hustle and bustle of holidays and start manifesting self-pity and self-sufficiency. this is not what Christ wanted for us when he gave His life.
i am making an effort to be a servant and a representative of the Lord,
humbly, willingly, and joyfully.
it is the least i can do for what He did for me!

what's a girl to do...

we've had this changing table/dresser for a few years and it has always bugged me a little bit. i just do not like the honey oak color on it, it looks old fashioned and out dated. we've even tried to sell it a couple times on craigslist, but to no avail. so it just sat, empty and ugly in our extra room. don't get me wrong, i like it's functionality a lot. it worked great for both the boys and the drawers are huge and holds lots of stuff. plus, it was free. while i was prego with noah and working at legacy, another teacher who's son was in 5th grade was getting a bedroom makeover. so she offered it to me free! what a blessing it was since we didn't have one and really didn't have the money to buy a nice changing table. it is a childcraft, so it is sturdy and heavy, which i like. but, it has stayed "as is"...
until last week :)

here it is, ugly honey oak
i didn't get a pic with it's hardware on,
but they were brass and wood...yuck!

here it is all sanded and ready for a make-over :)

one coat of "parchment white" paint
already looks a lot better

done!
complete with new knobs and pulls from home depot
only 2 and 3 bucks...score! :)
i really wanted glass knobs and pulls to give it a more shabbified look,
but i didn't feel like spending the extra dough.

i am very happy with it now.
it sits in the front room looking so pretty, awaiting a guest or a baby.
LOL...in the far future of course! :)
